This weekend we had a garage sale. We had a lot of clothes and other things leftover. What did we do with it you ask?
Well I’ll tell you…
We found out about a shelter that houses abused women and children. They help them feel better. My mom called the shelter to see if they wanted donations. We were in luck that they were accepting donations.
I have never been to a Shelter before so for me it was a first-hand experience. When we got there it was way more different then I had imagined. We went inside and I got a little uncomfortable. I didn’t know how to act. We stood in the main hall way with a staff member. My mom did the talking while I looked around at what I could see. I saw down the hallway toys for the children living in the shelter. It made me sad that they had to be there and not have their own toys. They had to share with kids they didn’t even know. I also felt good to know that I was supporting the women and children who had to leave their homes and lives and start over because of how the men were treating them.
It sickens me to know that the men are not treating women and children the way they want to be treated. I looked on the internet and found out that this situation happens all around the world. They have to flee their homes and possibly their town , city or Province. I understand what it’s like to leave home and your family and friends behind. I miss Ontario. But I’m glad that that my family is happy and together.
One of the things I learned on the internet is that 50-70% of kids are abused when one parent is abusing the other. It made me feel sad.
If you read this post, I encourage you to help abused women and children feel better. Donating things, even small things like us, can make a big difference in their lives.
