Ripleys Toronto

I was in Toronto at the Ripley’s Aquarium yesterday so I could bring you this awesome amazing blog content.

This story goes way back.  The aquarium opened a little bit after I had moved to Saskatchewan. I was devastated.  I really was looking forward to it.   My mom told me when we came back to visit we could go so I could finally see what it was like.  When the trip was booked I was ecstatic.

I wrote an email to a woman named Maggie Doucette who works for the aquarium as a public relations associate.  I asked if I could interview someone.  She said there was no interviewees available and she could answer them for me. I asked seven questions that I wanted to know.

1. how much food does it take to feed all the animals?   750 lbs a week

2. how many employees does it take to keep all the animals fed and safe? Our Husbandry team consists of over 30 highly trained staff

3. what is the biggest animal?  Sawfish 450 lbs

4. How much water altogether? 5.7 million litres

5. how much food do the sharks eat in a day? Due to a slow metabolism sharks don’t eat every day.  Depending on the species they typically eat between 2-5% of their body weight a week.

6. about how many animals are in the entire aquarium? Roughly 16,000

7. most popular exhibit? Dangerous Lagoon

On the way there, my mom and I took the GO train.

I took out my phone on the GO, but my mom said I would lose battery power.  I looked around at everyone with their phones and laptops.  I told my mom I wanted to fit in.  She laughed which was a bad idea cuz we were in the quiet zone.

I was so happy to go.

When we were in the aquarium it was so cool!!!!!!!! There were sharks and sea turtles and piranhas. There were so many different kinds of fish that I never even knew of – I was amazed.

What surprised me the most is that a harmless looking little yellow fish could be so lethal and dangerous (it had an accurate resemblance to Bubbles from Finding Nemo).   I could see the other fish I saw in there being lethal and dangerous. When I saw the little yellow one I thought it was there for bait. But, when I saw the board I thought “Oh”.

My favorite part was the Dangerous Lagoon. Dangerous Lagoon was really cool it had a moving walkway, sharks, sawfish, sea turtles and much more!!!!! On our ‘quest’ into the lagoon, there was the huge sawfish just lounging on top of the tube. It was funny because his mouth was just going up and down like he was cleaning the top like those cleaner fish.  Also saw a really cool starfish.

I had so much fun on this trip.  I miss Toronto so much and hope we move back soon.  This was a cool experience.
