Ripleys Toronto

I was in Toronto at the Ripley’s Aquarium yesterday so I could bring you this awesome amazing blog content.

This story goes way back.  The aquarium opened a little bit after I had moved to Saskatchewan. I was devastated.  I really was looking forward to it.   My mom told me when we came back to visit we could go so I could finally see what it was like.  When the trip was booked I was ecstatic.

I wrote an email to a woman named Maggie Doucette who works for the aquarium as a public relations associate.  I asked if I could interview someone.  She said there was no interviewees available and she could answer them for me. I asked seven questions that I wanted to know.

1. how much food does it take to feed all the animals?   750 lbs a week

2. how many employees does it take to keep all the animals fed and safe? Our Husbandry team consists of over 30 highly trained staff

3. what is the biggest animal?  Sawfish 450 lbs

4. How much water altogether? 5.7 million litres

5. how much food do the sharks eat in a day? Due to a slow metabolism sharks don’t eat every day.  Depending on the species they typically eat between 2-5% of their body weight a week.

6. about how many animals are in the entire aquarium? Roughly 16,000

7. most popular exhibit? Dangerous Lagoon

On the way there, my mom and I took the GO train.

On the way there, my mom and I took the GO train.

I took out my phone on the GO, but my mom said I would lose battery power.  I looked around at everyone with their phones and laptops.  I told my mom I wanted to fit in.  She laughed which was a bad idea cuz we were in the quiet zone.

I was so happy to go.

I was so happy to go.

When we were in the aquarium it was so cool!!!!!!!! There were sharks and sea turtles and piranhas. There were so many different kinds of fish that I never even knew of – I was amazed.

The way males give birth I think is hilarious.

Being able to touch a bamboo shark

What surprised me the most is that a harmless looking little yellow fish could be so lethal and dangerous (it had an accurate resemblance to Bubbles from Finding Nemo).   I could see the other fish I saw in there being lethal and dangerous. When I saw the little yellow one I thought it was there for bait. But, when I saw the board I thought “Oh”.

My favorite part was the Dangerous Lagoon. Dangerous Lagoon was really cool it had a moving walkway, sharks, sawfish, sea turtles and much more!!!!! On our ‘quest’ into the lagoon, there was the huge sawfish just lounging on top of the tube. It was funny because his mouth was just going up and down like he was cleaning the top like those cleaner fish.  Also saw a really cool starfish.

I had so much fun on this trip.  I miss Toronto so much and hope we move back soon.  This was a cool experience.

I would like to thank Maggie Doucette for answering my questions and the Ripley’s aquarium for a good time

Alert: I will not be posting for a couple weeks. My next post will say why.

Disclosure: I was not paid or didn’t get anything for this post.  All my opinion and I loved it.  Hopefully I get to do more stuff.

5 Months (going on 6) Anniversary

It’s been five months going on six of being in Saskatchewan. WOW!!! Time does fly!!! Although we’ve been here this long I still get waves of homesickness at the most unexpected times in the days. Also, I still have mixed feelings about this move.

Feeling Sad and Homesick

Although I have those feelings and the homesickness, I still have done stuff I’ve never done before!! Things like:

Traveling like no tomorrow – I’ve done so much traveling I haven’t seen tomorrow.  I’ve been to North Dakota and all over most of Saskatchewan.  I’ve seen Manitoba and a lot of Ontario.

I’ve volunteered at places.  My favourite is the SPCA and the white husky I walk.

Gone to a football game.  They really like football here.  That one gave me the chance to say I don’t like football.

Doing many after-school activities I never could do before like guitar, drama and soccer.  Before we could only afford one after school activity.  Here I can do a whole bunch.

Feeling OK 🙂

It’s been fun here and all.  I really do prefer Ontario though because I’m a Toronto girl and proud of it.  I want to go Ripley’s Aquarium so badly.  I’ve lived near Toronto all my life.  I miss it a lot.  I’ve got to do a lot of stuff since I’ve been in Saskatchewan. I have had a really good time and have a lot of opportunities.   It was for the best moving here, I don’t regret coming!!!

But hopefully there’s a chance we go back 🙂
